Manager Paul Dickov had made Tommy an offer of a new contract at the club, however the two parties were unable come to agreement on a deal.

Although contract terms offered to Tommy were competitive, Rovers were unable to match those from former Premier League outfit Blackburn Rovers without additional investment.

Establishing himself as a firm fan’s favourite during his time at Rovers, Tommy enjoyed the best stint of his footballing career achieving his first ever promotion last season.

After joining from Sheffield Wednesday in the summer of 2011, Tommy established himself as first choice in the left back position earning many plaudits for his performances.

In just his second season at Rovers, Tommy helped the club secure an instant return to the Championship courtesy of the dramatic final day victory over Brentford.

After confirming the departure of Tommy Spurr today manager Paul Dickov told “Tommy is the model professional and a player that any manager would love to work with. As a manager it’s very difficult when you lose a player of Tommy’s quality.

“We put together a competitive package for Tommy, however we were unable to match the offer that Tommy received from Blackburn Rovers.

“Throughout the whole process Tommy has acted in a very professional manner allowing us every opportunity to try and put a package together suitable for both parties.

“I’m sure all the supporters will join me in thanking Tommy for his contribution to this club and wish him all the best for the future.”

Doncaster Rovers Football Club would like to thank Tommy for his services and commitment to the club over the past two years and wish him well for the future.
