Experienced striker glad to be back on goal trail, but says everyone must collectively improve.
Nathan Tyson hailed the 2014/15 season as a “comeback season” for himself after hitting fourteen goals in his first season with Doncaster Rovers.The likeable front man, who admitted he was close to hanging up his boots, finished the season with a hat-trick to round off a satisfying campaign on a personal note.
“I feel battered and bruised – I’ve had a few head injuries and dislocated my finger twice in the space of two weeks,” he said.
“It is a grind but the rewards make it worth it. For me, on a personal note, I knew that I could work hard under the right manager and I wouldn’t let them down.
“Yes, I haven’t taken as many chances as I would have liked, but it’s a massive improvement from where I was.”
Tyson was speaking after the 5-2 rout of neighbours Scunthorpe and, after notching his first hat-trick in seven years, the 33 year old said he hoped for more consistent performances from the team next season.
“It’s been hard to get a good run and all season we’ve been inconsistent and going in to next season that’s got to change.
“There’s a lot of improvements needed such as the players mentality. Whoever comes in, whoever stays, the basic line of what we want to achieve is there.
[When asked if he felt whether the club had underachieved]: “Yes, massively. But, in saying that, we could have ended up like Yeovil and that’s not happened. We’ve had a bit of success this season and we’re pulling in the right direction because there’s some talented players here.”
