WHAT THE PAPERS SAY – 22/04/14

22 April 2014

A quick round up of the press following Rovers' stalemate with Millwall on Monday.

The Sheffield Star: "A win may have brought a welcome calming of nerves but ten man Rovers’ single point from Millwall will definitely go down as one gained.
The somewhat harsh sending off of Abdoulaye Meite for a foul on Stefan Maierhofer just before the break left Rovers with a mountain to climb in their bid to take something against their fellow strugglers.
But the mountain was climbed with a great deal of defensive heart and resolve, ending the run of four consecutive defeats."

Yorkshire Post: "Sam Johnstone was inspired in the visitors’ goal, the Manchester United loanee making superb saves to deny Shaun Williams and Steve Morison in the second half. The draw keeps both sides out of the relegation zone and locked on 44 points each, with Birmingham and Blackpool one point further back in the battle to beat the drop."

London24.com: "“I’m not disappointed at all, pleased with the performance, funnily enough I think the referee changed the course of the game,” Holloway said.
“I don’t think it as a sending off at all, at worst it was a yellow card.
“I think they felt aggrieved and I think they held themselves in, even now I can see that save from Steve Morison, where did that hand come from? I thought it was in! I was up celebrating."

The Telegraph: "“I’m immensely proud of the players for their second-half performance,” said Paul Dickov, Rovers’ manager.
A year after lifting Crystal Palace out of the Championship, Ian Holloway is now trying to keep their near neighbours in it but this was a golden opportunity missed for the Millwall manager. “I’m pleased with the performance. I thought it was only a matter of time before we scored. I still can’t believe we haven’t really,” he said.
On Meite’s sending off: “Ian Holloway hit the nail on the head at the time when he said it’s debatable if it’s a yellow,” Dickov said. “In a game of this magnitude it’s the wrong decision.”"
