What the Papers Say

2 March 2015

A round up of what the press made of Saturday's 2-0 win over Colchester United.

Football365 - Rovers were much the better side and should have had more goals to show for a dominant display.
But they had to survive an early scare when Colchester striker Chris Porter blasted wide from the penalty spot after he had been brought down by Reece Wabara.

Green ‘Un - “We would have backed Chris (Porter) to score from the spot, and if he had scored then it would have been a very different game.
“That’s the disappointing thing, and that’s the frustrating thing,” added Humes.
Porter blazed his penalty high and wide.

The Star - Patience paid off, according to boss Paul Dickov, as Doncaster Rovers returned to the top six with victory over Colchester United.
Enda Stevens’ first goal for Rovers and Nathan Tyson’s 83rd minute penalty saw Dickov’s men return to winning ways following back-to-back defeats to Port Vale and Bristol City.

Doncaster Free Press - Rovers did both, in business-like rather than brilliant fashion. They were much the better team but it might have been different had Chris Porter not blazed his early penalty horribly wide.
At 1-0, once Enda Stevens of all people had broken the deadlock with his first goal for the club, you feared too that Rovers’ wastefulness in front of goal might come back to haunt them. Against a better team it might have done, but Colchester were not that team.

Yorkshire Post - Stevens volleyed Rovers into a half-time lead from 20 yards after Tyson’s driven cross was only half cleared.
Both sides had chances after the break before Rovers finally got their reward seven minutes from time when Tyson scored from the spot after Dean Furman had been fouled by Alex Wynter just inside the area.7

And how we reported it… "It was a happy return to the Keepmoat for Paul Dickov’s men as Rovers play off push continues.”
