Doncaster Rovers' End of Season Gala Awards dinner took place on Monday evening (4th May), at the luxurious surroundings of Doncaster's famous racecourse.

The entire first team squad, management and coaching team, backroom staff and Board of Directors all turned up in their finery for the evening, celebrating one of the most exciting seasons in Doncaster Rovers' history.

Playing in the Conference no more that five years ago, the thought of Doncaster Rovers playing in the Coca-Cola Championship was, to some, unthinkable. However, recent years have bore continued success, with Sunday's away clash against Championship title winners Wolverhampton Wanderers sealing a hugely successful first season back in the second tier for five decades.

Bottom of the league at Christmas, Doncaster Rovers outstanding second half of the season resulted in a superb 14th placed finish in the Coca-Cola Championship - with many supporters also attending the End of Season Gala Awards Dinner to celebrate with Doncaster Rovers Football Club.

Attendees were treated to a Champagne Reception upon arrival in the splendidly decorated restaurant inside Doncaster Racecourse, before settling down at their tables to kick-start a fantastic evening.

The night kicked off with a game of 'The Referees' Decision Is Final', before food was brought to tables in the first of four mouth watering courses.

Following dinner, Chairman John Ryan delivered a rousing speech, highlighting the excellence of Doncaster Rovers' season (more to come on the Official Website later), before Master of Ceremonies Jonathan Heath presented the awards.

Charles Fisher, the young defender offered a one-year deal by Doncaster Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll, was presented the Youth Player of the Year award by Rovers' youth team manager Paul Wilson.

The next award was that of Champagne Moment of the Season, which was voted for by people in attendance on the evening of the awards. Nominated for the award was Lewis Guy, for his opening goal of the Rovers' first season in The Championship, Neil Sullivan for his goalkeeping heroics against Aston Villa in the FA Cup Third Round tie at Keepmoat Stadium, James O'Connor's goal against Sheffield United sealing Rovers' first ever league win against The Blades at Bramall Lane and finally Gareth Roberts' amazing cross-come-shot against Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

Veteran goalkeeper Neil Sullivan scooped the award, presented by the Chairman's wife Lynne Ryan, for his outstanding goalkeeping display, which Sullivan admitted was part of a huge team effort against the Premier League giants.

Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll took to the stage to present the Golden Boot award to Rovers' top goalscorer Paul Heffernan. Heffernan has been in incredible form this season, particularly following the Boxing Day destruction of Nottingham Forest. Heffernan scored ten goals which will be regarded as the goals that kept Doncaster Rovers in The Championship this season.

DoncasterRoversFC.co.uk opened up the voting for two awards, with the next award the Goal of the Season accolade as voted for by supporters. Shortlisted for the award were Brian Stock's sizzler against Plymouth Argyle at home, Richie Wellens' cracker against Coventry at the Keepmoat, Mark Wilson's volley against Derby County at Keepmoat Stadium, Martin Woods' sublime chip against Forest at the City Ground on Boxing Day and Paul Heffernan's header against Derby - also at Keepmoat Stadium.

Martin Woods' chip scooped the award, receiving the unanimous amount of votes coming through the Rovers' Official Website. Victoria Sinclair, one of the many supporters who voted for Woods' chip, attended the awards ceremony and presented the man himself with his award.

The next award was that of Worst Dressed Player - established by the Rovers players. Richie Wellens presented the award to Rovers' defender Adam Lockwood; who was asked to wear a disastrously coloured bow tie for the rest of the evening.

Richard O'Kelly presented the Players' Player of the Year award next. Voted for by members of the Doncaster Rovers squad, the majority of votes meant that there was only one winner. Doncaster Rovers skipper Brian Stock collected the award, which he felt honoured to collect.

The final award of the evening was also voted for by visitors to DoncasterRoversFC.co.uk - the Player of the Year award. Presented by Rovers Chairman John Ryan, Matthew Mills; in his first full season as a genuine Doncaster Rovers player scooped the accolade. An incredible season in which Mills has continued to develop as one of the country's best young defenders, the only thing that has been missing by Mills this term has been some goals - however Mills confesses that the goals will come next season.

Following the awards, many items - including a signed Rovers shirt by Sir Elton John - and Richie Wellens' NSPCC shirt from the Crystal Palace game were auctioned off, with many attendees digging deep to win their prizes. All funds raised from the sale of the NSPCC shirt will be going directly to the children's charity. In the end, the shirt was sold for an incredible £900!

The evening finished off with music from acclaimed local band Benron, capping off an incredible evening which suitably celebrated an equally incredible season.
