Brian Carey was brought to Doncaster Rovers by Dean Saunders, who he'd worked for at Conference side Wrexham.
The former Republic of Ireland international had long been associated with the side since first joining them on loan in 1991.In 1996 he signed permanently from Leicester City: he made over 300 appearances in all and became captain. Carey also played for Cork City and was on the books at Manchester United in the early 90's.
After injury forced him to retire in 2005 he stayed at Wrexham as a coach. He stepped up to the manager position in 2007, taking over from Dennis Smith when he left the club, and led the side through a relegation battle at the end of that season. He later became assistant manager to Dean Saunders when he took over the reins in 2008.
