The Rovers made one change from Saturday for tonight's match at Leicester City, with James Hayter replacing the injured Dean Shiels. Leicester also made just one change, former Rover Richie Wellens returning after suspension. The home team got the game underway on a cold but fine evening but the Rovers were the first to threaten when a good move led to Hayter shooting wide after 4 minutes. Minutes later the Rovers forced successive corners, the second of which was cleared and set the home team on the attack. A further attack in the 10th minute gave King a shot at goal from 25yards on the left but he put it wide. The next fifteen minutes was generally fought out in midfield. Then, in the 27th minute a free kick on the home right by Gallagher was eventually fired over the bar by King. Two minutes later, a quick break by Leicester down their right produced a cross to the far post where Oakley fired into the ground, the ball bouncing high over the bar. In the build up to this attack Stock and Fryatt collided heavily, with Fryatt receiving five minutes treatment before being carried off and replaced by Waghorn. A good build-up by the Rovers in the 40th minute put Oster in down the right but his effort from 25yards was deflected for a corner, which was headed wide by Martis at the near post. As time ran down into 7minutes of added time, the home team pressed and forced a series of corners but nothing came of them. Another free kick to Leicester on the right byline was headed over by Hobbs.

The news came through during the interval that Fryatt had broken his jaw and was at the hospital. The Rovers kicked the second half off but it was the home team who went on the attack with Waghorn being closed out in the penalty area as he shaped to shoot followed a minute later by Gallagher, put clear on goal, shooting over the bar from the edge of the penalty area. At the Leicester end, Hayter was foiled but won the corner, which came out of defence to Stock 25 yards out from where he fired over. The home team were in the ascendancy at this stage culminating in N'Guessan getting in front of a defender as he raced for the Rovers goal to be met by Sullivan, who spread himself to save with his legs as the Leicester man tried to put the ball past him in the 58th minute. Five minutes later a Rovers attack ended with a Coppinger shot from 25yards being saved by Weale. Minutes later Stock drove wide from 20yards following a Rovers free kick. In the 70th minute a long ball by Coppinger over the Rovers backline was collected by Sharp, who beat a defender before hitting a left foot shot wide of a post. Leicester then attacked down the left, with King finally firing wide from 18yards. A corner followed to the home team, which was headed over the bar. Into the last ten minutes and Weale just beat Sharp to a long ball at the edge of the Leicester penalty area. As time ran out Leicester tried hard to get a winner but a good rearguard action kept them at bay and indeed, the Rovers had a chance in added time to snatch the win but Wilson fired high and wide.
