The Rovers made three changes for their match at Peterborough United on a mild evening. Sam Hird, Dean Shiels and Martin Woods started the game, with James O'Connor, Mark Wilson and James Hayter dropping to the bench. Peterborough United made just one change from their win at Watford on Saturday, Exodus Geohaghon replacing Aaron McLean, who was injured in training. The Rovers defended the Moys Terrace End in front of their own supporters in the first half.
The Rovers got the game underway but the home team were first on the attack and gained a corner in the second minute but nothing came of it. Both sides took it in turn to attack but the first real effort on goal came after 10minutes when Lee, for the Posh, hit a firce volley from 25yards that Sullivan caught well. Midfield play followed for a spell before the Rovers won a corner on their left, which came to nothing. In the 24th minute a free kick for the home team on the right touchline level with the penalty area, was headed back at the far post for Mackail-Smith to head well over the bar from 8yards. Oster, for the Rovers, shot wide minutes later but general midfield play dominated. Around the half hour the sides swopped corners and, following the Rovers corner, the Posh broke quickly through Mackail-Smith on the right. A pass inside to Torres brought a tame effort from about 12yards that Sullivan palmed away for a corner. A couple of minutes later, Sharp got in a snap shot at the other end but Lewis saved. As the last five minutes came up Woods put a fierce drive just over the bar from 30yards. The whistle blew for the break on quite an even half, with the home team perhaps having the better chances in front of goal.

Although Peterborough set the second half going it was the Rovers who went straight on to the attack winning a corner in the first minute, which Hird headed just wide. Back they came to win another corner, which came to nothing. In the 51st minute the home team were awarded a free kick on thge left touchline halfway into the Rovers half. It was swung over to the far post where Zakuani headed back across goal for Lee, two yards out at the other post headed goalwards only for Sullivan to get a strong hand to it and turn it round a post. As the 54 th minute came up another corner to the Posh came in from the right for LEE to get in a goal-bound header from close range that Chambers cleared off the line but on the linesman's advice the referee gave a goal. This setback at last got the Rovers going with a bit more fluency than hitherto shown, Sharp at the far post put well wide from a cross by Coppinger on the right and Shiels, a couple of minutes later, was just wide from 18yards. Mackail-~Smith thenhad an effort from 20yards saved. Then, just past the hour, Rowe put a header just wide following a cross from the right by Reid. Minutes later, Geohoghan had a go from 35yards that Sullivan saved comfortably. On 65 minutes a good build-up by the Rovers down their right put Chambers in on goal but he was foiled by a defender just as he was about to shoot. Then a corner to the Rovers wasn't cleared properly as Woods latched on to the ball, rounded a marker and crossed from the left by-line. The ball was headed out by a defender but only to ROBERTS to the left of goal on the 18yard line. He struck a great half volley that kept low as it zipped through a crowd of players and past Lewis into the net. It was rip-roaring stuff now as the Posh tried to hit back. A corner to the far post was headed wide but the Rovers then got to the other end with a neat move that ended with a cross to the left for Emmanuel-Thomas but, off balance, he volleyed wide. At the Rovers end Lee headed wide from a long throw-in from Geohoghan. Into the last ten minutes nand Woods had a 25yard effort saved by Lewis. At the other end Sullivan tipped over from Mackail-Smith. It was nip and tuck as the home team, in particular, went for broke. In the 90th minute a corner to the home team was cleared out to Coppinger, on the Rovers right. A long ball down the line for Sharp to collect and cut in but he mishit his shot, which skewed across the pitch for OSTER to simply tap in for his first goal for the club. Emmanuel-Thomas then put wide from 20yards and the Rovers defence kept out a last minute Peterborough attack to hear the referee blow the final whistle on a Rovers victory.
