Doncaster Rovers midfielder John Spicer was in the mood for celebration following Rovers' 3-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle on Saturday afternoon.
The three points guaranteed Rovers a place in the Coca-Cola Championship, taking the tally thus far to 55. In addition to that, Spicer scored the first of the three goals of the afternoon - with James Hayter and Paul Heffernan netting the second and third respectively.
And - if that wasn't enough, Spicer's sizzling strike was his first goal since arriving at Doncaster Rovers from Burnley last summer.
"It feels really good, because it has been a long, hard season for us," Spicer told Rovers World.
"At the start (of the season), there were probably some people who thought that we was down, but we knew - with the team we've got and the management staff that we have got - that we was going to turn it around and thankfully we did. I think that we have picked up vital points in the vital games and I think that has been a key point in seeing us through the season."
"I think we always knew that we could put a run together. I think that the luck, for the first few games, just wasn't with us. We were dropping to late goals and everything was going against you, but once you got those goals and that luck turns we were able to go on a run that, afterwards, has allowed us to concentrate and play the way that a Championship club does. I think that it is credit to us for putting the run together and not letting our heads drop when we have lost games we shouldn't have. We've kept plugging away and we are now safe, which is what we always wanted."
"The manager always said to us that if we keep playing the way that we are playing, there won't be a problem. The way that the manager wants us to play, some people would see as risky but as I've said, we've kept plugging away at it and picked up vital points in vital games. We've played well when we have needed to play well and, today, in a game where we needed to play well, we've turned up here and picked up the three points."
Spicer grabbed his goal with 15 minutes gone in the clash. The midfielder ran onto Paul Heffernan's inviting drive across the face of the penalty area, which bounced slightly, allowing the Romford-born midfielder to smash the ball into the bottom corner of the Plymouth net.
"To be fair, it's been a while coming. I think there have been games where I have had chances and should have scored. But if I could have saved it all in order to score an important goal like that today, I would have done. It was a great ball by Paul Heffernan and he has put it on a plate for me. It's all about the ball, really. It's bounced; set up lovely for me and I haven't even had to move I just ran up to it."
One factor Spicer credited for the success this season - and in the victory against Plymouth - was the fantastic support received from the Rovers faithful. 500 supporters made the long, arduous journey to Plymouth at the weekend to support Doncaster Rovers at Home Park.
"The supporters were fantastic today because it is a long, long way to come down to Plymouth. Not a lot of teams like coming here and I am sure that not a lot of supporters like coming down here. Credit to them today, they got behind us well, gave us good support and I think they have seen a good game and a good win, so I am pleased for them."
