DONCASTER Rovers' final match of the season at Keepmoat Stadium was a resounding success in every way.
The match saw the launch of the official partnership between the Club and the NSPCC, and was designated as a 'Green Day' - green being the official colour of the NSPCC logo. Although it may have been strange to see the team running out in a brand new green and white kit, this was a magnificent gesture by the Club (granted by the football authorities) to cement its new partnership with the NSPCC.
The stadium concourses displayed signage promoting the NSPCC organisation, members of club and stadium staff were kitted out in green and white T-shirts promoting NSPCC, a special edition matchday programme was produced with a green cover, and the Rovers' supporters whole-heartedly entered into the spirit of turning the stadium green at the appointed time by displaying the thousands of green cards which were placed on all the seats.
Volunteers from the local NSPCC project, based here in Doncaster, organised a ground collection to which our fans contributed a magnificent £1359.06 - a sum which surpassed by far any other ground collection which has taken place at a home match. In these times of financial difficulty, this contribution once again highlights the extreme generosity of Rovers' fans in supporting truly worthy causes which benefit our local community. NSPCC will shortly be issuing a press release (which will be displayed on this website) to thank the Club's fans for their wonderful support of this event.
As if this wasn't enough cause for celebration in itself, the 12,000 supporters were treated to another display of high quality football which culminated in a truly-deserved 2-0 victory for the Rovers, with goals from Dean Shiels and James Hayter establishing beyond any doubt the team's standing in the Championship table, and hailing another season of Championship football at Keepmoat Stadium.
The Club should like to thank all of our supporters for their superb support and behaviour, not only on this special day, but throughout the whole of this season, proving once again that collectively they are our '12th man' and do really make a difference.
