Doncaster Rovers recorded their fourth draw of the season, following a goalless encounter against Reading at the Madejski Stadium.
Reading, who handed debuts to three new players on Saturday afternoon, were impressive on the counter-attack, however Rovers were equally impressive in the way they dealt with the pressure.
"I thought that it was a hard-earned point," the Rovers manager told Rovers Player.
"We played Reading twice last season and played extremely well in both games and got nothing out of them, so to come here and not play as well as we can, but still get a point - we're quite pleased. I've seen a bit of a transition in Reading and the way they played, it was a counter-attacking system and I thought that we managed to stifle that, but on the downside, we couldn't really get our own passing game going. The longer the game went on, it was going to be a free kick or a corner and one of our faults is that we can give goals away from free kicks and corners because we're not set up for that game, so I thought that we defended really well.
"We were away from home and for us to create chances, we need to get our passing game going and we didn't quite get that. Every time we did lose the ball, Reading would counter and the possession from the edge of your 18-yard box and you've got to be brave. We tried to do that in the first half - but you don't want to pass the ball to lose it. Credit to the players, we altered things and I think that we coped really well."
