WILSON: WE'RE A WELL-OILED MACHINE

Posted on: Wed 23 Dec 2009

Doncaster Rovers midfielder Mark Wilson is expecting a tough game on Boxing Day, as he and the rest of the side travel to Coventry City's Ricoh Arena in the Coca-Cola Championship.

Rovers are full of confidence after claiming their fourth victory on the bounce in the league, however the Sky Blues are also confident; their last two games resulting in three points for Chris Coleman's side.

"It's always a tough place to go," Wilson told Rovers Player.

"We lost to a really good goal there last year; however we dominated for most of the game without being able to score. We're expecting a tough game - but we're confident. Confidence is a massive thing - especially in this league, and the way that we are performing at the moment, we certainly don't fear anyone."

One Coventry City player who is finding form over the past two games is former Southend United striker Freddy Eastwood. Eastwood bagged a hat trick in City's 3-2 win over Peterborough and netted the winner in their 1-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle last weekend.

"He's a handful - but he's also unpredictable," commented Wilson.

"We've talked about that ahead of the game. Their front pairing of Eastwood and Best is a handful. As I said, Eastwood is unpredictable - but that works in their favour also. They also have McIndoe, who is an old Doncaster boy, doing very well for them on the wing. For me though, if we look to go about our business in the right way - we know how we're going to look to break them down."

Wilson himself has been enjoying his return to the starting eleven. The former Manchester United man has gelled into a solid midfield alongside Simon Gillett, Dean Shiels and John Oster and earned praise from the Rovers faithful.

"As a whole unit, we are working hard up and down the pitch. It's coming together and we're getting there. I guess a lot of what I do at times goes unnoticed - but I'm fine with that. It's all about having a balance in the team and ability certainly doesn't define a team. Attitude, organisation, discipline - they define how your team plays. Having the right balance and mix in your team is vital and we're lucky here. I believe that we have got one of the best midfields in the division. Simon Gillett has come in and fit in nicely, and we have a bit of a partnership going there; we're moving up and down the pitch at the same times, talking a lot - and that allows Johnny Oster to get onto the ball and work his magic. My role, for me, is to slip in unnoticed and fit into a role where I can be effective - and I feel I have been - but it's only as part of what is a well oiled machine."
