O'DRISCOLL: BRENTFORD ARE NO MUGS

Posted on: Fri 01 Jan 2010

Doncaster Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll has spoken of his admiration of Saturday's FA Cup 3rd Round opponents Brentford ahead of the Rovers' trip to Griffin Park on Saturday.

Brentford emerged as champions of Coca-Cola League Two last season and have earned plaudits from supporters and pundits for the type of football that young manager Andy Scott has brought to the Bees.

"They're a good team and an honest bunch," O'Driscoll told Rovers Player.

"They have had two good results against two of the bigger teams in League One in Leeds and Charlton and they have also beat Colchester 1-0; so they're no mugs. Andy Scott has done a good job. He's got a lot of players and when you look at their squad they can pick a selection. I think he's done well in the loan market; John Bostock who they have got in from Tottenham is going to be a really good player."

A victory against Brentford will see Rovers in the draw for the Fourth Round come Sunday afternoon, with O'Driscoll's side drawn against Aston Villa in last season's competition - and the Rovers boss has emphasised that a draw against one of the country's top sides is the ambition this term also.

"I think you need to see it as an opportunity, particularly in the early rounds, of drawing one of the big boys in the next round," said Sean.

"I think that everybody enjoyed going to Aston Villa last season - and to do that, we needed to beat Cheltenham. This season, we have a similar difficult task against a Brentford side that has impressed us the times that we have seen them - but if you have the dreams of playing the big boys, you need to have the right sort of attitude against what is seen as one of the lower league clubs. Whatever stage you come into the FA Cup at, it's always different to the league."
