DUMBUYA: I'VE IMPROVED A LOT

Posted on: Sun 14 Feb 2010

Young Doncaster Rovers full back Mustapha Dumbuya received a fantastic reaction from home supporters, as the defender made his Keepmoat Stadium league debut in Rovers' 1-0 victory over promotion-chasing Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.

The 21 year-old came on for Shelton Martis with twenty minutes left to play and instantly made an impression, showing off his pace before delivering a low cross into the box which John Oster had dispossessed before he could properly create an effort.

"At first, I was nervous, but after the game started going I felt good but I know I do much more," confessed Dumbuya on Rovers Player.

"The pressure was on and I knew, coming on, that I didn't want to bomb on. We already had the 1-0 lead and there wasn't much point in me moving forward. My mentality was to defend first and maintain the clean sheet."

Already buzzing with making his home bow, the moment was made all that sweeter for Dumbuya - who has only played football in the Conference prior to this season - as the final whistle brought Rovers three points and a second consecutive clean sheet.

"We dominated today and that was pleasing, because they are a good side that are pushing for promotion. The speed of the game is so much faster than I am used to; that is the main difference, and it is so much more technical."

"I just want to push on now, keep working hard and hopefully keep impressing in training. I've moved on since I have been here and Richard O'Kelly has been working with me on my crossing and my left foot; trying to help me be the best player that I can be. Sean O'Driscoll has been fantastic since I arrived here and I have seen the improvement in myself since I've been here and hopefully that is only going to get better."
