Doncaster Rovers handed a starting debut to new loan signing Elliott Ward in the 2-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday evening, with the man on loan from Coventry City opening the scoring with a sensational bicycle kick on 39 minutes.
Rovers' manager Sean O'Driscoll was full of praise for the 25 year-old, who only trained with the team in the morning leading up to the South Yorkshire derby.
"He's a footballing centre-half," said O'Driscoll.
"He's from West Ham United and I knew him as a kid. I watched him play in an FA Cup Final at Wembley, so he's not somebody that is unknown to us. But he hasn't played for some time at Coventry and he has been first class."
"His use of the ball is excellent and he only joined us for training this morning. He deserves a lot of the credit and a lot of the plaudits because he put in a very composed performance this evening. Touch wood, we can keep him fit and he doesn't fall victim of the centre-half syndrome and it looks as though he will be a good loan signing for us."
