HELP FOR HEROES - THIS SATURDAY

Posted on: Fri 12 Mar 2010

This Saturday afternoon, Doncaster Rovers will join Derby County in promoting awareness and offering their support for Help for Heroes; the nominated charity of the Football League.

The charity, which was launched in 2007, aims to raise money for better facilities for our country's injured servicemen and women who put their lives on the line defending the safety of our country.

This afternoon's game will see Doncaster Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll and Derby County boss Nigel Clough wear the Help for Heroes wristbands in a demonstration of their support; whilst servicemen and women have been admitted into the ground for a reduced price.

Doncaster's very own Ben Parkinson, injured in the line of duty whilst serving in Afghanistan - will be joining us here at the Keepmoat Stadium as our guests of honour.

Mascots will be leading out the two teams from the tunnel holding the special Help for Heroes banner, whilst members of the military will provide a 'guard of honour' as the players take to the pitch. Guests from the Light Dragoons - friends of Rovers' midfielder James Coppinger - and the Light R.E.M.E - who will be leaving for a seven-month tour of Afghanistan three days after the game - will also be joining Doncaster Rovers Football Club.

Supporters of Help for Heroes will be around the Keepmoat Stadium prior to the game - and Doncaster Rovers Football Club ask; no matter how little the contribution may seem, that supporters donate what they can to raise money for the REAL heroes that this country has the honour of calling our own. We would also ask for supporters to take their seats earlier than usual, so that you can show your appreciation for our attending servicemen and women.

All 72 Football League clubs have this week offered their support to Help for Heroes, with each club organising their own individual events to raise money and awareness of one of the nation's most worthwhile causes.
