Doncaster Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll has praised his side's performance against table-toppers Newcastle United, despite the final score reading one-nil to The Magpies.
Rovers more than matched their experienced opponents on the night, with Sean praising the way that his players stopped Newcastle United from playing their natural game.
"I think everybody is a little bit disappointed," said O'Driscoll after the game.
"I thought that we did everything properly, we didn't let Newcastle United get into any rhythm and we made them play a game that they weren't suited to. I don't think it was in their game plan for their goalkeeper to kick everything. We tried to push up and stopped Newcastle playing from the back. It made the game slightly 'bitty'; but we were excellent at times and they are not seven or eight points clear at the top of the table for nothing and they have lots of experience."
The game against The Magpies was Doncaster Rovers sixth game in March and O'Driscoll admits that his side are in need of a well-deserved rest.
"We next have a local derby against a difficult Barnsley side, where we never seem to win to matter how well we've played. There are a few tired legs out there because we have had lots and lots of games; and the way that we play football - we move the ball and keep possession - so we get the Barnsley game out of the way and the players will get a rest."
