CHAMBERS: THE GOAL CHANGED THE GAME

Posted on: Wed 24 Mar 2010

Doncaster Rovers full back James Chambers said that he believed that the Rovers more than matched top-of-the-table Newcastle United, following the 1-0 defeat to The Magpies at the Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Rovers fell to a second-half Andy Carroll strike in a game where Rovers had chances of their own to take a foothold in the game. However, as Chambers admits, Newcastle United soaked up the pressure from Doncaster Rovers after they netted the 59th minute effort and made it hard for Doncaster Rovers to peg the visitors back.

"We're disappointed with the result," Chambers told RoversPlayer after the game.

"I think in the first half we played much better than we did in the second half and we had a couple of chances and spells of pressure, where we could have produced something better in the final third. Overall, I felt that we matched Newcastle United and I think I am right in thinking that we only had two shots to cope with throughout the entire game."

"The goal changed the game and I think that after they scored, they were able to sit back a bit more and soaked up the pressure. With the likes of the defenders that they have got; internationals and players that have played at the highest level for most of their career, I think that they have learned to soak up the pressure and hit you on the counter attack. The goal put us on the back foot at a time where we were pushing towards scoring that first goal."
