HEFFERNAN IS BACK

Posted on: Mon 05 Apr 2010

Doncaster Rovers welcomed back striker Paul Heffernan for Monday afternoon's clash against Blackpool at Bloomfield Road, with the Irish forward cutting-short his loan spell at League One Bristol Rovers so as to start the Championship encounter for Sean O'Driscoll's side.

Heffernan has enjoyed a good spell on loan at the Memorial Stadium; netting four goals in twelve appearances and looked lively and energetic in the Bank Holiday defeat to The Seasiders in Rovers colours.

However, the striker was left disappointed early on in the game, where he was denied what looked a clear-cut penalty and given a yellow card for simulation to boot.

"I think it was a penalty," said Heffernan after the game.

"The lad has left his back leg there and I have gone over it. The referee either gives a penalty or he doesn't; I don't know how he has booked me for diving, but it definitely was a pen and it definitely wasn't a dive. It upsets me, because I'm not that type of player and I said to the referee at the time; if I'm in on goal, I'm not going to go down intentionally. It's frustrating - just because he doesn't give the penalty, it doesn't mean that he has to book me for diving, so I am very frustrated."

Despite his frustration, Heffernan is happy to be back at Doncaster Rovers despite enjoying his time immensely at Bristol Rovers.

"It's been a busy 24-hours," reveals Heffernan.

"I was in Bristol and I got the phone call saying that I have to come back up with the amount of injuries that we have here. It's been hectic, but it has been easy to fit straight back in. I've been at the Club a long time and I know what we are trying to do and how the manager wants to play. I was enjoying my time playing at Bristol Rovers, but Doncaster have me under contract and they said that they wanted me back, so I was happy to come back - it was no problem. There is a difference between League One and The Championship but you just get on with it and hope it goes well."
