O'DRISCOLL'S PRAISE FOR BAGGIES

Posted on: Fri 09 Apr 2010

Three points for West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon will see The Baggies promoted to the Premier League at the first time of asking; however they face a tough test against Sean O'Driscoll's Doncaster Rovers side who are looking to get back to winning ways following two straight defeats in The Championship.

Although the dream of the Play-Offs has now been extinguished, the Rovers are still aiming to finish as high as possible in the division, whilst delivering the high-level performances that the manager seeks every week.

Whether West Bromwich Albion get their points or not this weekend against The Rovers, The Baggies are still odds-on favourites for automatic promotion along with Newcastle United - and Rovers manager O'Driscoll admits that nobody can begrudge them that achievement.

"They are a terrific club," Sean told RoversPlayer, who was full of praise for Saturday's opponents.

"I think that it will be a case of the two best clubs going up and I don't think that anybody can complain. I think that Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion have been the two outstanding teams in this division, for different reasons - and this is a difficult division to be outstanding in. To be where West Bromwich Albion are, you need to give credit to the club, to the players and to the new manager who, in his first season, has done what West Bromwich Albion have tended to do in recent seasons; come back down from the Premier League and gone straight back again."

"It sounds easy to do, but there are a lot of clubs that come out of the Premier League and the wheels come off. So, you need to give credit to the people behind the scenes at West Bromwich Albion. I know that the fans get frustrated and I am from the Midlands and, whereas my family is Wolves, I know a lot of people who support The Baggies. They get frustrated that they don't spend 50 or 60 million to stay in the league - but they will probably be the only Premier League club next season that will have no debt, with facilities to die for."
