With the World Cup just weeks away, England boss Fabio Capello may already be thinking about practicing penalties, given England's unfortunate history with spot-kicks. If that is the case then Doncaster Rovers fan, David Burkitt could perhaps provide a bit of advice.
The Rovers fan took to the pitch at Keepmoat Stadium in a recent Rovers home game to take part in a special penalty shoot-out organised by Leeds Building Society. For every penalty David scored, Leeds Building Society agreed to put £20 into a Donny Savers Account, an exclusive account for supporters of Doncaster Rovers Football Club.
In front of a packed home end and with Rovers mascot Donny Dog to beat in goal, David calmly slotted away all five penalties and netted himself a cool £100 and he already knows how to spend the money!
"I was a little bit nervous with the first couple of penalties, I think Donny Dog did well to let them in" joked David.
"I was pleased with the last couple though and managed to put them in the corner, the £100 is a great prize. I will be putting half of the money towards my new season ticket, and donating the other £50 to the British Lung Foundation, who I am raising funds for by running the Sheffield Half Marathon, in memory of my dad who sadly passed away before Christmas."
The Donny Savers Account is an exclusive account for supporters of Doncaster Rovers, which is only available through Leeds Building Society. By saving your money in the Donny Savers Account you can help Doncaster Rovers. Each year Leeds Building Society present a cheque to Doncaster Rovers, the amount of which is based on the cumulative balance of funds within every Donny Saver Account. The more money in your account, the more money Leeds Building Society pay Doncaster Rovers!
At Saturday's game against West Bromwich Albion, a cheque will be presented to Doncaster Rovers from Leeds Building, this will be made by Leeds Building Society Chief Executive, Ian Ward alongside Gill Ward and Michael Ward, Press and PR Officer.
