Sunday's headlines surrounding Saturday's clash at the Keepmoat Stadium between Doncaster Rovers and West Bromwich Albion may be dominated by West Brom's promotion to the Premier League following a 3-2 victory; however Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll was left focused on his side's impressive performance against a side that have taken The Championship by storm this term.
"I was delighted with the performance," Sean told RoversPlayer.
"West Bromwich Albion have quality and that quality shone through at crucial times in the game. Then we got our heads down, worked really hard and created problems for them. West Bromwich Albion, like Newcastle United, are the stand-out teams in The Championship and you have to give them credit. Everybody wants to beat them, as with Newcastle, and I have watched them four or five times this season and they are a nice side to watch. They play some good football and have some excellent players. We would like to add our congratulations to West Bromwich Albion for a job well done."
Rovers went into the break 2-0 down, following an exceptional free kick by midfielder Graham Dorrans which was added to by Chris Brunt's tap in just before the half time whistle - however Rovers' application and continued positivity led to Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and James Hayter netting goals for the home side, either side of Roman Bednar's match winner.
"Our reaction was really good. We went in at the break 2-0 down, but didn't let our heads drop. We have 45 minutes left to play and all the things we did well in the first half, we want to do again. I thought we did that. It was a difficult game for both teams on a hot day, but I thought we were excellent. We just need that little bit more quality, but that costs so you have to develop the players that you have got. We showed enough that we belong in The Championship and that is pleasing. With three games left to go, we want to show the same effort in each of them."
