WILSON: HIGH FINISH IS THE AIM

Posted on: Sun 11 Apr 2010

Doncaster Rovers midfielder Mark Wilson believes that the team's performance against West Bromwich Albion merited something in terms of the outcome, but feels that the level of performance that is being put in by the side is setting the standard for next season's Championship campaign.

Despite going into the half-time break two goals down against West Bromwich Albion, who were promoted to the Premier League following their victory, Rovers performed exceptionally well in the second half and fought their way back into the game - looking likely to net an equalising goal that unfortunately never came as The Baggies ended the encounter 3-2 winners.

"I think that we deserved something out of the game," Wilson told RoversPlayer.

"I'd be very surprised if Roberto Di Matteo says anything different. We have contributed to our own downfall in part today, but on the plus side, we ticked all of the boxes that we would be expected to tick every week. Performance-wise, Plymouth aside which was disappointing, the Blackpool performance and the performance today deserved more."

Wilson gave special praise to the words of manager Sean O'Driscoll, whose thesis on performance is what characterised Rovers' spirited second half showing.

"This is what the Gaffer tells us every week; if you are performing well and still conceding goals, the chances are you are going to get back into the game. If you are not and you concede goals, you will lose the game. That's truth right there; that is fact. We're performing well, we had a lot of possession and we got back into the game. Our heads didn't drop, our performance before the goals went in was good - so there was no reason why our heads should go down."

"We want to finish as high as we can, with good performances. We'll pick up points if we are performing well. That will be key for next season; we need to set our standards for next year."
