O'CONNOR: A GREAT TEST

Posted on: Fri 30 Apr 2010

Doncaster Rovers' Player of the Season James O'Connor is expecting a tough test against Play-Off chasing Swansea City, in the Rovers' final game of the Championship campaign.

Speaking ahead of the visit to the Liberty Stadium, O'Connor commented on his delight at receiving the accolade at last weekend's End of Season Awards and thanked all the readers of the Official Website for voting for him.

"I think there was a few nominees who could have won the award," said O'Connor.

"There could have easily been another four or five worthy winners - so I was honoured and chuffed to bits with it. I wouldn't say I was choked up, but I was definitely surprised. I was really happy and it was a great award for me. I'd just like to thank all of the fans who voted because I am made up."

Looking ahead to Sunday's encounter in Wales, O'Connor believes that the motivation of a Play-Off spot will ensure that Swansea City provide a tough test for the Rovers, and despite wishing that the Rovers had something to play for themselves, acknowledged the difficulty that lay ahead for the visitors.

"I think it will be a big test for us. I think that Swansea City are one of the best passing sides in the division. They have something to play for and, to be honest, I would prefer it if we were going down there with something to play for, but it should be a good occasion.

"Even though they have had a change of manager, they haven't changed things to much in the way that they play. They have still kept the same shape and like to play with two wide players and a big man up front. They have been really solid and they have one of the best defensive records in The Championship - so maybe the new manager has tweaked things there."
