John Spicer became Sean O'Driscoll's first signing of the summer of 2008, as the Rovers prepared for life in the Championship.
A talented and energetic midfielder, Spicer can play anywhere along the middle of the park and has a keen eye for goal.
The Romford-born midfielder started his career at Arsenal as a trainee, tipped by many as a rising star. Spicer joined Sean O'Driscoll's Bournemouth side on loan in 2004, where he scored four goals in nineteen appearances before making the loan move to Dean Court permanent.
His scorching form for Bournemouth led to Championship side Burnley knocking on the door, with Spicer swapping Dean Court for Turf Moor in a £35,000 deal.
Spicer made 31 League starts for the Clarets and a further 38 substitute appearances, scoring five goals in his three year tenure, which saw the 24-year old used as more of a squad player than first team regular.
Spicer was released by Burnley at the end of the 2007-08 season, with Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll indicating early on his desire to have Spicer back playing for him. On Tuesday 17th June 2008, Spicer signed for the Rovers on a two-year deal.
