Doncaster Rovers signed striker Billy Sharp on a season-long loan deal in September 2009.

Sharp started his career back in 2002 with his hometown club of Sheffield United, progressing through the youth system at Bramall Lane. Between 2002 and 2005, Sharp made only two senior appearances for the Blades, spending a spell away from South Yorkshire on loan to Rushden and Diamonds.

However it was at Scunthorpe United, where Sharp moved to in 2005 for a fee of £100,000, that the striker was to gain nationwide recognition. The 23 year-old scored a staggering 56 goals in 95 appearances for the Glanford Park side, 24 in his very first season and broke the record for Scunthorpe United's goals scored in a season - netting 30 at the end of the 2006-07 season where Scunthorpe United earned promotion to the Championship.

His form for Scunthorpe led to Sharp rejoining his previous club and the club he supported as a boy, however he has slipped down the striker pecking order at Bramall Lane and arrives at the Keepmoat Stadium eager to score goals for Doncaster Rovers in the Championship.
