Sam Hird was another of manager Sean O'Driscoll's 2007 close season signings, after the young defender joined the club after being released by Leeds United.
Doncaster-born Hird was another player who spent a period on loan to the Rovers last season - impressing the management team and supporters alike with his work ethic and versatility.
Rovers supporters were able to witness this versatility in the final game of the 2006/07 season, where a series of injuries to the Rovers strike-force led to the defender playing as a make-shift striker.
Hird spent some of last season on loan to Grimby Town, however upon his return to Doncaster, he was called into action at the closing stages of the 2007-08 season, impressing supporters with a maturity beyond his years. Hird started in the Play-Off Final at Wembley against his former side Leeds - before hand stating that he would have taken playing in the first team for Rovers over playing for Leeds United any day of the week.
