Doncaster Rovers netted striker Steve Brooker on a two-and-a-half year deal in January 2009.
The 27 year-old is a proven goal scorer, having spent the past four years with Bristol City with whom he has scored 37 goals over his spell at Ashton Gate. Brooker started his career as a trainee at Watford, where he graduated from their youth system before joining Port Vale on loan. The move to Vale Park became permanent in 2001. The striker then went on to make 129 appearances for the Valiants, netting 36 goals for the Burslem side.
Steve joined Bristol City in 2004 and at the end of the 2005-06 season, was voted the Bristol City Player of the Year and won the Top Goalscorer award having netted 16 goals in the League One campaign. 2005 also saw Brooker named as Robins' skipper as the striker became a favourite of the fans in the Ashton Gate stands.
Some of Brooker's time at Bristol City has been affected by injury, with the striker joining Cheltenham Town on an initial one-month loan in January 2008 to regain match fitness, a spell which was later extended. Whilst with the Whaddon Road side, Brooker netted five goals in fourteen appearances before returning to Ashton Gate.
Upon his return to action for Bristol City, Brooker scored in his first game back - nodding in the winner for the Robins in a 2-1 win over Norwich City to put Bristol - at the time - back to the top of the Championship. Despite suffering a couple more niggling injuries, Brooker remained in the Bristol City squad to come off of the bench and score winners against Blackpool, Peterborough United and Coventry City.
An experienced target man, Brooker's ability in front of goal in terms of his vision and composure is second to none and is sure to add goals to the already impressive performances notched up by the Rovers.
