DUO SIGN FOR BELLES

Posted on: Mon 30 Jun 2008

Doncaster Rovers Belles are delighted to announce that England Under-19 international defenders Jayne Eadie and Chelsea Weston have both joined the club from Premier League rivals Blackburn Rovers and Birmingham City respectively.

Jayne and Chelsea become the Rovers Belles fifth and sixth summer signings following on from the capture of Rachel Williams, Suzanne Davies, Tanya Rich and Sarah Dickens.

19 year-old Jayne is a hugely talented young defender who can play anywhere across the back four. She has good pace, two good feet and is a very athletic player.

Jayne (pictured, right) joined Blackburn from Everton and quickly went on to establish herself as a regular in their first team over the last two seasons.

On the international front Jayne is in to her third year with the England Under-19's after stepping up from the Under-17 programme. She has been a key player for the last two years and was a member of the England Under-19 squad which reached the final of the European Championships last summer, narrowly losing to Germany after extra time. Jayne has also attended the FA Player Development Centre at Loughborough University.

Rovers Belles Assistant Manager Paul Green said:

"Jayne is a terrific signing for us. We identified her towards the end of last season as a player that would improve us if we could get her to sign, come the summer."

"Jayne is a versatile, athletic defender who is equally at home at either fullback or at centre back. We have admired her for a couple of years now, after she came to our attention with an outstanding performance against us at the Keepmoat Stadium."

"Jayne is very hungry to do well for the club and we believe that she has a big future in the game, both with us and with England."

18 year-old Chelsea is also a very talented young defender. She can play anywhere across the back four, she reads the game well, is very competent defensively and has two good feet.

Chelsea joined Birmingham City from her local side Droitwich Spa and went on to cement herself as a regular for both club and country. Chelsea is currently due to start at the FA Player Development Centre at Loughborough University in September.

Chelsea has progressed with England from the Under-17's to the Under-19's where, like Jayne, she was part of the squad which reached the final of the European Championships last summer, narrowly losing to Germany after extra time. Chelsea will get her chance for revenge next month when she will again face Germany with the Under-19's in the same tournament in France.

Rovers Belles Manager John Buckley added:

"I am delighted to have brought Chelsea to the club, it was no secret that we needed to strengthen in defensive areas, as we were short on numbers in that area last season."

"I believe we have now signed two of the most talented young defenders in the country in Jayne and Chelsea. Chelsea is just the type of player we want at the club, she's young, has desire to be successful along with a very professional attitude. We see both of these signings as a major coup for the club."

Both Jayne and Chelsea will join up with the rest of the squad for pre season training in early July.
