ENGLAND CALL UP FOR BELLES' WILLIAMS

Posted on: Tue 07 Jul 2009

Doncaster Rovers Belles attacking midfielder Rachel Williams has today been called up in to the full England senior squad for the upcoming training camp in La Manga early in the New Year. The camp in Spain is from January 11th to the 17th.

This is the 20 year-old's first senior call up following her excellent start to the season with the club and impressive performance's for the England Under 20's in the World Cup last month in Chile.

Indeed Rachel's club form saw her awarded the FA Premier League's Player of The Month for October. The young midfielder has been an important part of the side that has performed so well this season, seeing the club in to their first major cup final for seven years and currently sitting in fourth place in the FA Tesco Women's Premier League. Rachel has been a constant threat for opposition defences having scored eight goals so far this season from midfield, including a goal in the League Cup Semi Final at the Keepmoat Stadium against Preston North End.

Rachel joined the Club last summer from Leicester City Women. Rachel had been at Leicester since she was 12 years old and had progressed through their Centre of Excellence in to their senior side. She enjoyed success with their senior side that saw them rise through the divisions in to the FA Premier Northern Division. Indeed Rachel helped lead them to the Midland Combination League title in 2008.

Rovers Belles Manager John Buckley said: "We are delighted for Rachel. She has been tremendous since joining the club and has settled in really well with the other girls in the squad. Rachel is a very exciting player who can have you on the edge of your seat with her acceleration and change of pace. She is a willing learner, who possesses a great attitude, along with a massive hunger and desire to be successful in the game. I'm sure that she can make the step up from the Under 20's to the full squad and make a big impact."
