Community Team Tops Table

Posted on: Wed 05 Nov 2008

Doncaster Rovers' Sports and Education Foundation, renowned around the Doncaster borough as Rovers in the Community, have scooped yet another prestigious award.

The Rovers in the Community team, who are part of the Football League Trust, have reigned as champions of the Press League Table for Yorkshire and the North East region.

The Press League Table charts the press and media coverage obtained by various football clubs' Community schemes, with different types of media coverage earning certain amounts of points - with elevate or drop teams down the table.

Doncaster Rovers were announced as the winners of the award at an award ceremony organized by the Football League Trust at Leeds United's Elland Road Stadium, with Rovers in the Community's Eric Randerson in attendance.

Doncaster Rovers in the Community pipped not just Yorkshire teams such as Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds United, Huddersfield Town, Rotherham United and Bradford City - but also every team in the North East of England!

The award comes off of the back of Rovers in the Community scooping the national award for best Community pages within a football club's match day programme five years in a row!

"To win this award, we are all absolutely chuffed to pieces - especially beating Sheffield United to the prize," confessed Rovers in the Community officer Richard Bailey.

"At the beginning of the season, we set out to achieve this and we have been collating all of the bits and pieces we have had in the match day magazine, on DoncasterRoversFC.co.uk, national and regional newspapers and other websites. I have done interviews on BBC Radio Sheffield and we get radio coverage regularly on our Donny Rovers show on Trax FM. A massive thanks to everybody who has helped and to Angus Martin from the Football League Trust."
