The Rovers in the Community team offer many valuable services including match day experiences. Below is a letter of thanks from one of our most recent visits from further afield.
I want to express my thanks to Doncaster Rovers and in particular Wayne Galloway from the Community team.
I work in Sheffield for HSBC and we often have people working with us from Brazil and India. They stay with us for a few months and then go back home.
Heloisa Santos and Reinaldo Glir joined us in Sheffield about 2 months ago from Curitiba in South Brazil. Cassiano Martins came a week ago. They are all massive football fans, with Heloisa and Cassiano holding season tickets for Atletico Paranaense Club's and Reinaldo Glir for Coritiba Football Club.
They were very interested in seeing an English game and because me and my family are big Doncaster Rovers fans we thought we would take them to the Doncaster v Barnsley game on 28th October.
Just on the off chance I called the Club and asked if we could have a look round the stadium before the game and fortunately, I got put through to Wayne. Wayne was marvellous.
He organised a tour round the stadium, we saw the players changing room, the pitch, we met some of the staff including the Chief Executive Dave Morris.
Also, while we was there, the Barnsley players arrived and Darren Moore who recognised Wayne from his time at the club years ago introduced us to Dennis Souza who is also from Brazil. It was great meeting them, especially for Heloisa, Reinaldo and Cassiano who chatted away with him for about 10 minutes and exchanging numbers.
We had lots of photos and we had a fantastic time. My guests were delighted with how they were treated. Incidentally, it was 30 degrees Celsius in Curitiba whilst it was -2 in Doncaster. They got a real taste of a cold English night.
We didn't get the results we wanted but we did enjoy the match with plenty of chances and everyone getting into the chanting and singing.
Incidentally plans are already underway to run soccer courses over the Christmas period for boys and girls regardless of ability aged between 4-14.
The festive fun days will be held on Monday 22nd, Tuesday 23rd, Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th December.
The fun days will be held indoors at Hall Cross Lower School from 09:00-12:00.
Unfortunately due to the course being indoors places are limited. For more information or to secure your child's place please contact the community team
