Monday 23rd February saw the full Rovers squad make a visit to Hexthorpe Primary school as part of the clubs commitment to working in the community.
The point of the visit was to work with the school and help them follow the PSCHE/Citizenship scheme of work. The programme is followed in each year group using weekly sessions in classes and in circle time. The theme this term is 'Going for Goals' where each child is encouraged to set their own personal and academic targets. As part of this, Doncaster Rovers players were asked questions around the following themes:
Not giving up in the face of difficulties, developing a sense of personal responsibility being a good role model and the importance of a healthy lifestyle

Hexthorpe Primary School are also committed to anti-racism. Living in a multi-ethnic community the school find incidents of racial abuse are low and this is credit to the work they do with the children. The school have got a good partnership with Doncaster Rovers Community scheme running an innovative personal safety scheme and missdorothy.com. Today's visit was an extension of this partnership. As well as classroom visits the players were involved in coaching sessions with the children outside on the school playing fields.

Sean O'Driscoll said "The community is an important part of Doncaster Rovers and we love to get out into the schools not in small groups but as a squad. The excitement that this generates and the impact on the children not only makes it worthwhile but also focuses the players on their positions as role models. This was another successful visit that everyone could take positives from."
