This coming May employees from all over Doncaster will come together as one to represent the South Yorkshire town in a prestigious twin town football competition in Herten, Germany.
Representatives from Doncaster Rovers, Doncaster Council, Doncaster Rovers Belles, Doncaster Racecourse, Robin Hood Doncaster-Sheffield Airport and Doncaster College will come together to form a "formidable team" that will compete against teams from all over Europe. This will include representative teams from the hosts Herten (Germany), Arras (France), Schneeberg (Austria), Szcytno (Poland) as well as the Herten local police force, council and fire brigade.
The competition will take place over the May bank holiday weekend and uniting as a European community being the aim of the event; "however with the natural competitive streak within the Doncaster team, I'm sure doing well in the competition will be high on the agenda too," joked event organiser Liam Scully.
Mayor Winter added: "We are proud to be twinned with Herten in Germany and this event will mark twenty years of twinning. Events like this give us the chance to show people around the world the spirit of Doncaster."
