SCHOOLS PROGRAMME GOING STRONG

Posted on: Mon 06 Jul 2009

This week sees Doncaster Rovers Community Sports & Education Foundation head into the last half term of schools coaching for the academic year 2008/09. They are proud to announce some new schools have joined the programme that will add to an existing list of schools. Joining the programme will be Sprotbrough Orchard Infant School, Toll Bar Primary School, Arksey Primary School, Grange Lane Infant School & Sunnyfields Primary School in Scawthorpe.

The Sports Foundation suffered from a disappointing half term and will be launching an exciting new project soon. However it was far from the case with the last half term of the schools programme.

During the last five weeks the coaching team delivered an astonishing 164 sessions in 25 different schools that worked out at well over 35 hours of organised high quality coaching per week within Doncaster schools.

The total number of participant visits during the entirety of last half term was just over the 4,500 mark coming in at an exact 4,628. During the 5 week period this worked out that the coaching team were coaching over 185 Doncaster pupils per day.

Community Manager Eric Randerson said: "We are once again delighted with the attendance figures for the schools programme. We were disappointed at our holiday programme numbers and that's why we have decided to launch a pilot programme over two weeks of the summer. However for the last few years the schools programme has been going strong and continuing to grow at a steady rate. A lot of credit must go to the coaching team who work very hard to ensure the sessions are educational yet fun based. We have a fantastic team of coaches who work very hard, the success of the schools programme is tribute to them."
