On the 28th July, Keepmoat Stadium hosted a football and multi skills session that was aimed at youngsters aged between 13-19, that live in the areas of Hyde Park and Balby Bridge. After the football and fun activities sessions, Masroor Ahmed (also known as Maz) sat and talked to the youngsters about being brought up in a deprived area of Hyde Park and how he came to be a Media Executive for Doncaster Rovers Football Club.
He went on to explain the importance of working hard at school to get the grades needed for when they leave and setting goals for their future life. If they want something enough they've got to work hard to achieve it.
Masroor is now the Club's ambassador for the Hyde Park and Balby Bridge areas. He hopes to help the youngsters who have hit a brick wall in their lives and to see that they can go on and achieve their dreams by working hard and persevering at whatever they're doing, plus a little help from local organisations. All of the work he has achieved in his time at the club wouldn't have been possible without help from the Sports Foundation and a little bit of luck.
Masroor and Richard Bailey spoke after the session and said:
"It's been an incredible five years at Doncaster Rovers, made even more special when I think of how I had no direction prior to joining the Club," says Maz.
"To be selected as the Club's Community Ambassador for Hyde Park and to meet people from similar walks of life, I hope I can set an example that you don't need to necessarily be loaded with qualifications in order to achieve your dream."
"Maz is the perfect example of a young man with no real target in life but who has found a great vocation," said Rovers' Community Officer Richard Bailey.
"The talk was inspirational and the youngsters loved it."
