Luca Nelson's impressive run of form continued as his two goals against Coventry Sphinx U18s in the FA Youth Cup helped Paul Stancliffe's side to a 2-1 victory.
Nelson got an early goal as Rovers hit the home side on the break within 7 minutes of kick-off, but the side faced tough, well-organised opponents with both teams having dominant spells.
A well-taken header from a free-kick drew Sphinx level just after half-time but a looping header from Nelson on the hour mark put Rovers back into the lead. They played out the remainder of the game with calm heads and earned their place in the second round.
A sizable crowd attended the match with only home fans allowed into the stadium in line with Government guidelines on the date of the game but Stancliffe's team spoiled any party with an assured performance.
