Belles assistant coach Dav Doone says everyone in the camp is itching to get going ahead of Sunday’s FAWNL League Cup game against local rivals Sheffield FC.
The Belles will return to the Keepmoat Stadium for the determining round tie against Sheffield, and Doone feels everything is building up towards there being an exciting game in store.
“We’re looking to really starting to kick on in this season now and getting that first win on the board early, we wanted to put our stamp on things and push on to where we want to be, and this Sheffield game will be a great marker for us,” he said.
“It’s one that everyone is looking forward to, and it’s an opportunity to rekindle a great South Yorkshire derby, we had a couple of great games last season, and it’s also a great chance to put right everything from last week.
“Playing it on the Keepmoat Stadium pitch will be a big bonus for us too, mixing a derby in with a cup game when you’re looking to get your first win of the season against your local rivals, that adds a great element to it.”
The Belles lost on the opening day of the league season last weekend, but Doone already believes that is fully behind the side and they will be looking to put things right in front of great support at the Keepmoat Stadium.
“The mood in the camp is absolutely fantastic which is a real testament to all the girls, they’ve gone away themselves and highlighted their own improvements, and they all want to kick on after last week,” he added.
They’ve all got their heads switched on, they’re really focused and they’re eager to not only embark on a cup run, but get a win in a South Yorkshire derby under their belts, and there’s no better place to do it than on the Keepmoat Stadium pitch
“This is where we need to be looking at kicking on now, we’re a part of Club Doncaster and a part of the wider community, we want to link up and see the Belles fans going to support Rovers, Rovers fans going to support the Belles, and hopefully it really grows.”
