Belles head coach Zoey Shaw praised the fans for their continued support following Wednesday night’s launch event at the Keepmoat Stadium.
Shaw made up part of the top table in the Belle Vue Bar for the event which helped to welcome the Belles into the Club Doncaster family during the club’s 50th anniversary year, and the head coach felt it was an enjoyable occasion for everyone.
“The event for the fans, for me, like everyone else really, it was the first type of thing we’ve had to do in front of everyone so it was a lot to take in, but to see so many people there and listen to what they had to say was great,” she said.
“The fans have the club’s best interests at heart, whether that be Belles or Rovers fans that came down, and they’re coming together to build something great, but it was a really enjoyable occasion.
“Our fans are massive to us and what we want to do, when we played at Rossington last season we could get close to 200 coming down to watch, they’ve followed us around for years and they have our back no matter what.”
The Belles begin life in the Club Doncaster family playing in the FAWNL Division One Midlands for the 2019/20 season, beginning at home to Leafield Athletic Ladies on Sunday August 18, and Shaw believes there is no better way to begin the campaign than a game at Oxford Street.
“We were all excited to see the fixtures when they were released, and to have the first league game of the season at home it really couldn’t have panned out any better for us,” she added.
“The first four games of the season will probably give us the best idea of what is to come in this new league for us and build up our knowledge of the division, the main aim is to get points on the board early and set our stall from the off.
“Whatever the circumstances are, the fans have always been behind us, we owe a lot to them for sticking by us through all the hard times the club has had over recent times, and I hope this season we can really give them something to look forward to and enjoy.”
