Shaw: Belles enjoyed change of focus

Head coach Zoey Shaw felt the recent team-building activity provided for her side was a great way to change the focus.

Sunday saw the first-team squad head over the Pennines for a busy day of activities laid on by the head coach and her coaching staff, and Shaw said it was the perfect way to create a stronger team bond.

“We started off the day by meeting up for a team breakfast in the morning, then we drove over in convoy towards my home town of Glossop, which in itself was part of the team-building exercise, before doing some activities around the reservoirs there,” she said.

“We did some geocaching, which is similar to orienteering, where the girls had to find five different points around the reservoirs, from there we headed down to another one of my local clubs, Tintwistle Athletic where we got a light session into the girls.

“It was all about getting out and building those relationships in the team, we wanted to create a positive environment around the place, and getting away to do that was perfect for us really.”

The Belles have been without a game for the past couple of weekends and have to wait until November 10 for their next taste of league action, but Shaw said Sunday’s activities were a good way to keep them focused away from a football pitch.

“It was good for everyone, not just for those newer faces in the squad but the ones who have been here for a little while longer too, it was good to see them problem solve in an environment away from a football pitch,” she added.

“We wanted them to work together as a team in a different environment, and I think the group really benefitted from that, it was a great day, and when we went into doing some work on the ground, we still found ways to change it up.

“We started off with some rugby, fitting in with the theme of the World Cup that’s going on, but they all loved it, they enjoyed the opportunity to throw each other around and hopefully those changes can help them to relax.”

Tickets for the Belles next game against Bedworth United on Sunday November 10 are available via the Club Doncaster Box Office or tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
