Belles head coach Zoey Shaw is looking for her side to nail down on their mistakes after defeat at home to Lincoln City on Wednesday night.

The Belles lost 7-2 at Oxford Street in the FAWNL Division One Midlands despite taking the lead and Shaw wants her side to replicate their performance at the start of games throughout the rest of the 90 minutes.

“We made a few mistakes and when you come up against a team with a striker who has so much quality, you’ll get punished all too easily, they took their chances and were clinical in front of goal,” she said.

“You can’t underestimate teams in this league and we know we have to be much better than how we have been before we can put points on the board, we’re struggling to get going in the second half and we don’t know why.

“It’s a shame because we look so bright at the start of games, we take the lead early on, we look sharp, and then when the opposition get a goal back, we concede again almost straight away so we have to tighten things up and nail a few things down.”

The Belles travel to Division One North side Bolton Wanderers in the first round of the FAWNL Plate on Sunday, and Shaw is confident her side have what it takes to beat this current dip in form.

“We know what we have to do to get out of this dip in form that we have at the minute, the group is such a close-knit bunch, we just have to build that confidence up throughout the whole game because it’s there when we’re ahead,” she added.

“We’re going to have to work even harder now, both the players and as a coaching staff as well, we we’re in a similar situation last season, albeit we have a few more points on the board this time around.

“We have two goalscorers that have scored in the last two games so they’re firing at the minute, and we’ve had some good passages of play lately, we’ve got players that have come on and made an impact so we know we’ll be ready for this quick turn-around.”
