Belles head coach Zoey Shaw felt her side were unfortunate to find themselves on the end of a 2-0 defeat away at Birmingham and West Midlands on Sunday.
The Belles were unable to maintain a winning streak in the FAWNL Division One Midlands after success last time out, but Shaw could only look on as the hosts scored from two set-pieces after the break.
“It’s disappointing really, I felt we played them off the park for the first half an hour or so, we had some good patterns, plenty of the ball and some good play, but they got a little bit of a grip in the game towards the end of the first half,” she said.
“We had a little regroup, a re-focus so we knew what our plan was going into the second half, and we just didn’t execute that, it was disappointing to concede from the first set-piece because you need to take control in those situations.
“Just as we thought we took a foothold in the game, they get the killer goal late on, but to be fair to Birmingham, they could’ve finished the game off in the first half, they had plenty of chances to score, Kirsty Johnson really kept us in it with some great saves.”
The Belles are on the road once again on Sunday when they travel to face Leicester United in the league, and Shaw is focused on making sure her side get together and regroup.
“I said to the girls after the game that that’s how football is, but we’ll look to regroup once again and try and build up some momentum, we just can’t find that consistency at the minute and that’s what we need to find,” she added.
“We’ll get everybody in on Tuesday and see where we go from there, we need to look at some decision making and making sure the players look for the right pass, and try to really build something.
“We’ll have to look at making sure we redefine some of our passages of play and that will then help us to improve our quality both on and off the ball, but we will make sure that everybody is ready to go again on Sunday.”
