Belles head coach Zoey Shaw wants her side to start quicker following their 4-2 defeat against Leicester United on Sunday.

The Belles fell behind inside 20 minutes, briefly getting back on level terms through Nadia Khan, before two goals in two minutes from the hosts saw them take control of the game in FAWNL Division One Midlands, and Shaw is keen to make sure her side are the ones that start well in the future.

“I’m disappointed with the result, we really need to make sure that we start games in the right way, that’s another game where we haven’t started how we wanted, and it’s left us chasing the game once again,” she said.

“We fought well to get back into the game after the first goal, but we conceded two silly goals in two minutes, they didn’t really carve us open that much, we didn’t have too much to deal with but we need to do much better.

“We can’t keep waiting until things are against us and we’re under the cosh to get going in a game, we can’t keep going behind and then have a frantic end to the game where we’re throwing everything forward.

The Belles now face league leaders Wolves Women in what will be their third consecutive away game in September, and Shaw knows they’ll have to be well-prepared for their toughest test of the season.

“We know we’re going to have a tough game coming up now with Wolves the next game for us, we know what they’re about so we’re going to really have to regroup and be prepared for that test,” she added.

“We have to prepare and plan this week, we need to train well and re-focus once more to try and turn things round, even if it may not be as easy to do it against the leaders, and then we can see where we go from there.”
