The Belles picked up their first three points of the season following a 1-0 win away at Solihull Moors on Sunday.

Abby Watkinson's 73rd-minute goal ensured that the Belles would come away from The Beehive with their first victory of the FAWNL Division One Midlands campaign.

It was Watkinson who would have the Belles' first opportunity of the game inside two minutes, she saw her effort from outside the box fly wide of the post.

Solihull Moors came straight back at Zoey Shaw's side, with Kathryn Pagan seeing her free-kick from distance saved well by Kirsty Johnson in the visiting goal.

Hannah McWilliams would then have two opportunities inside the penalty area to get the Belles in front, the first coming from a Lauren Breen corner from which she couldn't keep her header down, before shooting just wide from close range moments later after a scramble in the Moors' box.

Johnson in the Belles goal would be at her best just shy of the half-hour mark, with Eboni Jacobs finding space to shoot, only for the Belles' stopper to produce a superb one-handed save.

Kirsty Smith tried to catch out Moors' stopper Francesca Vitale down the other end with a free-kick from near the half-way line, but her shot from way out could only graze the roof of the net.

Skipper Breen would be next to worm her way into the hosts' box after good work down the left, but again she was unable to keep her effort down.

After the break, it would be one-way traffic with the Belles dominant throughout, and Jasmine Saxton was inches away from opening the scoring, being played through on goal only to fire just wide of the far post.

Vitale was at full stretch to deny Watkinson on the half-volley after a ball over from the left-hand side, but it wouldn't be long before the Belles' no. 10 got the goal she had been looking for.

A good ball through from substitute Emily Burgin found Saxton over on the right, with the forward beating her marker and crossing into the area from the by-line.

Watkinson did well to get a touch ahead of a Solihull defender and looped an effort into the far corner to hand her side the lead.

Breen was then not far away from adding a second with Vitale getting a firm hand behind her shot from distance, before Johnson down the other end saved well from Corinna Williams.

Watkinson and Saxton tried their best to combine for another, with Saxton firing just wide once more after Watkinson's effort was blocked, however this wouldn't matter as the Belles held out to claim their first three points of the FAWNL Division One Midlands season.

The Belles now face a quick turn-around with a trip to one of the league's early pace-setters Long Eaton United on Wednesday as they look to build momentum early on in the campaign.
