Andy Butler felt his side put in a good all round performance as the Belles ran out 2-0 winners at home to Burton Albion on Sunday.

Butler was in the dug-out for the first time in the FAWNL Division One Midlands and got off to the perfect start thanks to goals from substitutes Charlotte Gill and Chloe Bethell to secure three points, and he was pleased with the way the team set out from the start.

“I’m really pleased, the girls applied themselves really well, me and Nick asked them to play a certain way, and hopefully people saw out there what we’re trying to do, we could’ve been a couple goals to the good at half-time but we dominated the game,” he said.

“We said to them after the game that this is a team game, they’re all going to be needed, it just goes to show as well that the two players that came on together had a massive impact once they got on.

“It’s a good all round performance from us I think, we took it to them more in the second half, we said to them at the break to keep believing, just getting that final pass in was what we needed, and that came at a great time in the end.”

The Belles dominated the game against the Brewers and had to be patient before eventually making the break-through 20 minutes from time, and Butler thought his side performed well throughout the thirds and hopes they can kick on from there.

“I thought the two holding midfielders in Sophie Scargill and Kirsty Smith were very good, the back four played extremely well, and the front three and the striker linked up really well, I thought they were always a threat,” he added.

“I thought Ellie Sharpe came in and had a great game in goal, the back four complemented her as well saying about how well she communicated throughout, and that’s really pleasing to see, it’s just those little things like that.

“Everyone had an input in the game, we had a good week in training and I think that really showed, we looked really organised, we’re going to take each game as it comes now and who knows what we can do.”

The Belles host Solihull Moors in the FAWNL Division One Midlands on Sunday February 2, with a 2:00pm kick-off at Oxford Street - tickets are available via the Club Doncaster Box Office.
