Sophie Scargill believes there has been a huge progression on and off the pitch for the Belles as they head into their second season as part of Club Doncaster.

The Belles have a full-time chief executive in Russ Green, and have access to more equipment and a wider pool of staff who offer support in areas such as commercial, media and ticketing.

Scargill, who works full-time in the commercial team based at the Keepmoat Stadium, said: “The progression has been massive and the support on and off the pitch, as well as financially, is fantastic. We know we can't go anywhere without finances in this game, it's just one of those things.

“And it's in some of the little things, like having the Rovers players back us. They announced our squad numbers again this season, they're following us on twitter and right behind us - it gives us everything we need to progress.”

The midfielder was appointed club captain for the 2020/21 campaign, with Kirsty Smith team captain.

She added: “It means everything. I know that sounds cheesy - I work for Club Doncaster, it means everything to me and I give everything seven days a week to Club Doncaster. To go out there and captain the side means everything.

“We’ve had a good start to the season and we’re ready to go in December when we can hopefully start up again.”
