Andy Butler named midfielder Jess Andrew Belles captain for the 2021/22 season.

There were plenty of options in a Belles squad full of leaders, but the No.8 was picked out for her ability to lead off the field as well as on it.

Butler said: “Jess has been a leader in the changing room for a long time. She leads by example and we felt it was a good opportunity for her to take the reins.

“She’s vocal in the changing room and that’s what I want, players who communicate and I believe that she will bring the best out of the players around her.”

Andrew said it was an honour to be named captain of her hometown club.

She added: “I’m a Doncaster girl and I know the history of the club and I’ve grown up with the Belles so it was an honour to be asked to be captain.

“I’ve tried to step up this year because it’s my second season but I wouldn’t be the leader that I am without half of these girls. They’re all leaders as well. I give them leadership and they give me leadership so it’s a two-way street.

“On and off the pitch, I try to lead by example. Hopefully we can take Belles back to where they belong”

Belles return home on Sunday when they face Sporting Khalsa at Oxford Street. Kick-off 2pm.
