Andy Butler’s Belles suffered their first defeat of the season with a 5-2 loss to Lincoln City on Wednesday night.

The Belles made one change to the side that beat Sporting Khalsa Women last Sunday, Jess Price replacing Hannah McWilliams in the attack to play alongside Jasmine Saxton.

The Belles were quick out of the blocks and took the lead in the 2nd minute. Saxton’s low cross found Price who fired her volley into the roof of the net, for her first goal of the season.

The visitors were level soon after Lauryn Wilcock went past two defenders to slot it past Ellie Sharpe into her bottom right hand corner.

However, Andy Butler’s side were soon back in front 5 minutes later through Nadia Khan, a mix-up by Lincoln’s defence saw Khan use her pace to get in behind the defence for a neat finish. Her first goal of the season.

The lead however, lasted 6 minutes after a error by Sharpe in the goal Imps striker Leah Hardy was there to put the ball home into an empty net.

The imps were soon in front for the first time in the game. Wilcock, again found herself one on one with the keeper and scored from close range.

The Belles started the better in the second half and should have been level through Saxton and Khan, Saxton forcing a save from the keeper then Khan skied her shot over.

Lincoln soon doubled their lead from Amy Blinkhorn, a scramble from an Imps corner eventually was poked home by Blinkhorn. The imps sealed the win through Leah Hardy, her second goal of the game, a driving shot past Sharpe in the goal to seal victory.

The Belles resume league action on the September 5 when they travel to Warwickshire to face Bedworth United.
