Goals from Jasmine Saxton and Nadia Khan saw the Belles emerge 2-1 winners against Peterborough United in the FA WNL Division One Midlands.

Andy Butler made two changes to the team that played against Holwell Sports last week. Khan and Lindsey Tugby came in for Lily Wishart and Niamh Doody.

The Belles started the quickest in freezing conditions, a great ball by Izzy Trevillion found Saxton, her pace got her away but her shot was saved by the keeper.

Andy Butler’s side continued to press for the first goal, a free kick by Jess Andrew caused problems in the box and found Saxton but her shot was saved on the line while the visiting keeper recovered well to hold Hannah McWilliams follow up.

At the other ends, balls into the box looked dangerous for Peterborough but Belles dealt with the danger. The deadlock did get broken on 26 minutes.

It was superb counter-attacking play from Butler's side - a wonderful pass by McWilliams found Tugby and her low driven cross found Khan at the back post for a neat finish.

However the Posh drew things level after the hour mark. Kier Perkins threaded a ball to Cassie Steward who slotted it past Ellie Sharpe in the goal.

The scores were level for just three minutes. A wonderful pass by Andrew picked out Sophie Bell, and her low cross found Saxton at the back post who slotted it home for her seventh goal of the season.

Belles showed real resilience to retain the lead and put in back-to-back wins for the first time since October. Belles top the tree with one game remaining before Christmas.
