Belles chief executive Russ Green says confirmation of Wolves’ promotion from the FAWNL Division One Midlands is a positive step as he continues preparations for the 2021/22 season.

It was confirmed on Wednesday that Wolves, who were top of the table when the season was curtailed, would go up a tier.

Green said: “I’d like to congratulate everyone at Wolves, we’d have loved to have made them work for it on the pitch but their record over the past two seasons speaks for itself and they’ve undoubtedly been the standout team in our division.

“Having movement between divisions is vital for the pyramid, and we also welcome Peterborough United and Leek Town to what we are sure will be a competitive league.”

The Belles will remain in the Midlands division, with a fixture list expected to be confirmed in the middle of June.

Green added: “We’re still waiting on confirmation of when the season will start, but preparations are well underway with friendlies lined up and the girls enjoying a bit of a break before reporting back for training.

“We hope to be able to play our home friendlies at Rossington Main with fans able to attend, and I can tell you everyone is looking forward to getting going again. Last season was a challenging one, but we really progressed on and off the pitch which will all benefit us when we can get back out there.”
